Just after 1800hrs, CVFC received a phone call from NRP in reference to assisting with an Osprey stuck upside down in a tree. It had possibly been stuck in the tree since 10am. The bird was located approximately 75’ to 80’ up and had twine wrapped around its leg and tree branch. Truck 1 responded and began to set up for an attempt to reach the Osprey. Due to the height, Chestertown Volunteer Fire Company was special called for their 100’ aerial to start towards the scene. After positioning the aerial to its maximum reach, FF C. Organek ascended the ladder to assess the situation. Organek came back down and was provided with a net and long trimming blade. Once back at the tip of the ladder, Organek was able to net the Osprey and free it from the tree branch. Once on the ground Billy Rios from the Owl Moon Raptor Center was able to untangle and remove all of the twine. The Osprey was transported to their rehabilitation center for evaluation.
